Harry Hammond Award update

July 21, 2017

Benjamin Pochet leads the Harry Hammond Award race, but isn’t competing in the final event.

The Harry Hammond Award race comes to a close Monday at the Jock MacKenzie Memorial. Spring Ford Country Club’s Benjamin Pochet, winner of the Christman Cup presented by GlobalGolfPost, leads the standings by eight strokes over Huntingdon Valley Country Club’s Brian Isztwan, runner-up in the Junior Boys’ Championship presented by PURE Insurance. However, neither is competing Monday at Sandy Run Country Club, thus rendering both ineligible for the prize.

As a result, reigning Harry Hammond Award winner Ron Robinson of Commonwealth National Golf Club is the frontrunner with a 224 total. He leads Manufacturers’ Golf & Country Club’s Matt Graeff and Kennett Square Golf & Country Club’s Christopher Skean by a stroke. All three are competing in the Jock.

We’re also in the midst of the Junior Player of the Year chase. Pochet holds a 60-point lead over Indian Valley Country Club’s Dawson Anders. Anders isn’t in the field Monday, either, but he is competing in the Joseph H. Patterson Cup, a POY points event. Other players within the Top 10 need to qualify for the Patterson and make charges in the Championship proper to have a chance.

Ron Robinson will become the Harry Hammond Award leader come Monday.
